    Data lineage

Data lineage is the recorded path from a number in a Decision Brief back through the metrics and rules that produced it to the exact rows in the source systems it came from. It is what lets a CFO check an AI answer in seconds instead of trusting it, and what makes SIGNLD answers usable in audit and board settings.

    How it works

    • Every figure carries a reference to the metric definition used and the source rows that fed it.
    • Lineage is captured at answer time, so it reflects the definitions in force when the answer was produced.
    • Because the graph is temporal, an answer from last quarter can still be explained after a definition changes.
    • Connections are read-only, so lineage always points back to a system of record you control.

    How to use it

    • Spot-check one number per Brief in the first weeks to calibrate trust.
    • Attach the sourced Brief when a number goes into a board pack.
    • When two answers disagree, compare lineage rather than debating the number.

    Data lineage FAQ

Can I audit an answer after the fact?

Yes. Lineage is stored with the answer, and the temporal graph keeps the definitions that were in force, so a past Brief remains explainable.

    Does lineage cover manual uploads?

Yes. Uploaded files are treated as sources, so figures trace back to the file, sheet, and rows used.

Does SIGNLD change data in my systems?

No. SIGNLD connections are read-only by design, which is also why lineage always resolves to an untouched system of record.
